  • Permanent hair reduction is a professional treatment that uses light-based technology to safely and effectively reduce unwanted hair. It works by targeting the hair follicles during their active growth phase, which gradually leads to softer, finer, and less visible regrowth over time.

  • Hair grows in cycles, and only hairs in the active growth (anagen) phase can be effectively treated. On average, 8–12 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart are recommended to achieve the best results. The exact number of sessions depends on your hair type, skin tone, the area being treated, and hormonal factors.

  • At Althea, we use advanced IPL technology, including IPL, SHR and Dual Mode settings, to deliver safe, effective, and comfortable permanent hair reduction. While laser hair removal uses a single concentrated wavelength, IPL uses broad-spectrum light, which allows us to treat a wider range of skin tones and hair types more gently.

    One of the biggest differences is comfort — IPL, especially with SHR (Super Hair Removal), gradually heats the hair follicle instead of delivering one strong zap like traditional lasers. This means treatments feel much more comfortable and are better suited to sensitive areas and skin types.

    We chose IPL for Althea because it offers incredible flexibility, minimal discomfort, and consistent results — all without compromising on client safety or experience. With the added benefit of customisable settings through Dual Mode, we can tailor each treatment to your unique skin and hair needs.

  • We can safely and effectively treat almost all areas of the body, including the face, underarms, legs, bikini line, chest, back, arms, and more. During your consultation, we’ll guide you through the best options based on your goals and skin/hair type.

  • Yes! Shaving is required 24 hours before your treatment, and it's perfectly fine to shave between sessions. However, waxing, plucking, or using hair removal creams should be avoided, as they remove the follicle that we need to target with the light.

  • Thanks to the advanced technology of the UltraLUX Pro, we can safely treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types. During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin and hair to determine the most appropriate and effective settings for your personalised treatment plan.

  • We’ll provide you with a full pre- and post-treatment care guide. In general:

    Before treatment:

    • Shave the area 24 hours prior

    • Avoid sun exposure, fake tan, and active skincare on the area for 2 weeks

    • Exfoliate the area 2-3 days prior

    After treatment:

    • Keep the area cool and moisturised

    • Avoid heat (hot showers, saunas, intense exercise) for 24–48 hours

    • Wear SPF daily on exposed areas

  • You can expect a significant and long-term reduction in hair growth. While some fine or light regrowth may occur due to hormonal changes or genetics, maintenance sessions once or twice a year are typically enough to keep your skin smooth and hair-free.

IPL Hair Reduction

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) targets the hair follicle with strong, concentrated light to disrupt hair growth and reduce regrowth over time. It’s a highly effective treatment for those with fair to medium skin tones and darker hair, and is ideal for smaller or more precise areas where targeted results are desired.

Dual Mode

Dual Mode combines the power of IPL with Radio Frequency (RF) technology to effectively treat lighter or finer hairs that standard methods may miss. By using both light and heat energy, this advanced treatment penetrates deeper into the follicle for enhanced results, even on challenging hair types. It’s a great option for areas with lighter hair or mixed hair tones.
